BLADENBORO — The West Bladen Lady Knights swept the Red Springs Lady Red Devils for a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening in the final match of the regular-season.
West Bladen honored four of their seniors before the match for Senior Night: Kiera Lewis, Jenna McLean, Trinity Meares, and Maddie Walters.
The Lady Knights got to work early in the first set with a 25-9 victory to start the game and they kept their foot on the gas going into the final two sets.
Freshman Greer Pope dropped a service point over the net and Meares smashed two straight kills to put the host ahead by 4-0 at the start of the second set. Red Springs junior Monica Washington sent over a kill to get the visitors their first point of the set but attacking errors halted any progress.
West Bladen began to pull away from their opponents after Lewis crushed a kill over the net to extend the lead to 11-8. Red Springs responded a few moments later with Alena Oxendine dropping a point but immediately killed any momentum after a service fault.
McLean and Walters smashed back-to-back kills to put the Lady Knights ahead by 18-9 as the set began to tilt into their favor. McLean stamped the second set victory with a service point to seal the set at 25-13. Pope continued the momentum into the third set with five service points in a 12-0 unanswered run. Red Springs was able to regroup after a timeout and were able to slash the deficit to 13-4.
West Bladen junior Holland Davis extended the lead with two great serves to stretch the lead to 15-4. Attacking errors gave the visitors some points on the scoreboard and junior Telinda Pate sent over a service point to bring them within eight points of their opponents.
The Lady Knights created separation after a point from Davis as the game began to lean more into their favor. McLean sent two straight service points to put the Lady Knights in position to close out the game and Lewis stamped the third set victory with a kill to conclude the set by a score of 25-12.
Lewis led the host with 11 attacks, while smashing five kills and she sent over three service points. Walters had 10 attacks, while finishing the night with five kills and three service points. Meares also had 10 attacks, three service points and she finished the match with two kills. McLean sent over four aces and Pope sent over five aces after a great night serving the ball.
West Bladen finished the regular-season with an overall record of 11-11 and they finished in third place of the SAC 6 with a conference record of 6-4.
Midway finished at the top of the SAC 6 after an undefeated year in conference play with a 10-0 record and St. Pauls finished in second place with an 8-2 record. The playoff bracket will be drawn up at the end of the week to determine seeding for the postseason coming up.
