ROWLAND — East Bladen stormed ahead in the third quarter before falling to South Robeson 69-68 on Tuesday night in boys high school basketball.
The Eagles blistered the hosts for 33 points in the first eight minutes after intermission, rallying from a 29-26 deficit to lead 59-48. Senior Darrell Banks and sophomore Freddy Wooten couldn’t be stopped, combining for five 3-pointers and 26 points.
Banks finished with 27 points, including 11 in the third quarter and 16 after halftime. Wooten scored 20 on the evening, including 15 after halftime.
Keshaun Davis chipped in 11 points.
South Robeson’s Cameron Werrell led all scorers with 31 points, making 16 of 21 free throws. Daniel Murray scored 21 points.
The Mustangs drained 30 of 41 foul shots; East Bladen was 9 of 13. The Eagles were whistled for 24 fouls, losing two players to fifth fouls; South Robeson had just 12 infractions.
East Bladen exited 3-14 in the Three Rivers Conference and 3-20 overall, having lost 10 straight. South Robeson is 9-8 in the league and 12-10 overall.
