Volleyball tryouts for ages 12-14 are Oct. 17

BLADENBORO — LAVA volleyball, an organization for teaching fundamentals of the game, will have tryouts Oct. 17 for girls ages 12 to 14.

LAVA is an acronym for Lakewood Area Volleyball Association.

Shannon Ross is the organizer and can be contacted at sross@nccumc.org or by calling 910-874-8310. Ross said organization of teams locally is being done in preparation for six tournaments on Saturdays in November in December. Those will be played at Mintz Academy in Roseboro.

Those 12-and-under will tryout from 2 to 3:30, 13-and-under from 3:30 to 5, and 14-and-under from 5 to 6:30. All will be held in the Galeed Baptist Church Family Life Center, 571 Galeed Church Road in Bladenboro. Youth from Bladen and surrounding counties are welcome.

Information about LAVA Club will be provided. Volleyball shoes, knee pads and water bottles should be brought by participants. A release says, “All safety protocols and procedures will be in place to ensure the safety of your child.”

There is a cost to participate. Tryout fees are $20.

If enough players participate, multiple teams can be formed.
