CERRO GORDO — West Bladen fell behind early and dropped an 8-2 decision to host West Columbus on Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference high school baseball.
The Knights trailed 2-0 after one inning, 3-1 after two and 6-1 after three.
• Knights: Junior Alex Strange 2-for-3, RBI; sophomore Hunter Elks, 2-for-3; junior Bryley Williams, 1-for-4; junior Devon Strange, 1-for-4.
• Vikings: Austin Booth, 2-for-4, 2 RBI, triple; Ethan Hinson, 1-for-4, 2 RBI; L.B. Allen, 2-for-2, RBI, double; Ethan Brown, 1-for-3, RBI; Sam West, 1-for-4, double.
• Pitching: West Columbus’ Justin Connor struck out five, walked two and allowed six hits pitching one out into the sixth inning. In relief for the Knights, Williams threw three innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two. Starter Josh Russ (0-2) took the loss.
• Third inning: Booth hit a two-run triple to extend a three-run lead to five.
• Second inning: Alex Strange’s single to center scored Williams. The Knights got a second run on a passed ball in the sixth.
• Next: West Bladen, 1-4 Three Rivers, 2-8 overall, hosts St. Pauls on Thursday; West Columbus, 4-1 Three Rivers, 6-4 overall, at Whiteville today.
