CLINTON — East Bladen was defeated by Clinton 8-1 on Thursday in 2-A Southeastern Athletic Conference girls high school tennis.
The Lady Eagles of 14th-year head coach Megan Kirby dropped two games behind the Lady Dark Horses with their second loss to the league leader. Clinton sets the pace in the SAC-7 at 5-0 and is 14-0 overall, while East Bladen is 4-2 in the league, 4-3 overall.
• Singles: East Bladen sophomore Reese Hester rallied past Clinton’s Kensley Puryear 2-6, 6-2, (10-6) at No. 6. Clinton winners included seniors Lauren Naylor, Melina Matthews, Zoey Brewer, Kate Randleman and Haley Carter.
• Doubles: Lady Eagles seniors Heather Hardin-Jessica Johnson, at No. 1, fell 8-4 to Naylor-Matthews. Hester-junior Ashlyn Williams were defeated at No. 3 by Brewer-Puryear.
• Next: East Bladen is at West Bladen on Monday; Clinton hosts Rosewood on Monday and can clinch no worse than a share of the league title on Tuesday when Fairmont visits.
