Eagles fall in baseball, Lady Eagles crush St. Pauls in softball

ST PAULS – The Eagles soared momentarily with a two-run start in the first inning Monday, but scored nothing the rest of the game and went home with a 14-2 mercy rule baseball loss against the homestanding Bulldogs.

St. Pauls broke a 2-2 tie with 12 runs in the fourth inning that gave the Bulldogs a Southeastern Athletic Conference win over visiting East Bladen.

Zamir Lewis had an RBI single in that first inning, then scored on a Bulldog error for the brief 2-0 lead.

East Bladen, now 4-3 in SAC-7 play and 8-5 overall, will host St. Pauls on Thursday night in a conference rematch.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Eagles wouldn’t let the dogs out to play Monday night, taking the SAC-7 win against the Bulldogs at St. Pauls, 20 – 2.

After a scoreless first inning, East Bladen scored three runs in the second, then plated eight in the third, added six runs in the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth to seal the mercy rule victory.

Junior Emma Turbeville scored four runs and had two RBI; and Laura Davisson scored three runs with one RBI — she also hurled all five innings for the win, striking out six Bulldog batters.

Mary Frances Sutton, Maegan Burney, Karli Priest, Gabriella Bray, Mollie Tolar and Moriah Smith all scored two runs.

Burney had three RBI for the night, with AnnaGrey Heustess contributing two RBI; Karli Priest, Gabriella Bray, Mollie Tolar, and Mariah Smith each knocked in a run in the win.

The Lady Eagles moved up to 5-2 in SAC-7 and 7-6 overall this season. East Bladen will play St Pauls on Thursday at home.
