ELIZABETHTOWN —The West Brunswick Trojans swept the East Bladen Eagles in the home-and-away series this Thursday and Friday for a non-conference matchup. The Trojans won Thursday’s away matchup by 13-3 and followed it up with a 10-1 victory at their place on Friday.

Thursday

The Eagles’ downfall on Thursday was great pitching and defensive errors that put them in a 5-0 hole through the first two innings. West Brunswick senior right-hander Linden Clemmons got the start on the mound for the Trojans and struck out 11 while only allowing three hits in the victory.

East Bladen was able to get two runs back in the second inning but their opponents were able to increase their lead to 7-2 in the 4th inning. The Eagles senior first-basemen Zamar Lewis smashed a fastball down the middle of the plate to the backfield wall but was thrown out by the Trojan’s center fielder at third to start his team’s half of the fourth inning. Clemmons went on to strikeout the next two batters faced to get the Trojans out of the inning unscathed.

The fifth inning finished scoreless between both teams but the Trojan lineup picked up steam at the top of the sixth inning with six runs on the board to separate them. East Bladen senior Ty Mathis crushed the ball over the plate and rounded the bases for a triple in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Jake Futrell stepped up to the plate and smashed his second hit of the day to bring Mathis home for the Eagles’ third run of the night.

Friday

SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick senior Landon Everhart got the start on the mound for the Trojans and only allowed eight hits in six innings of work. East Bladen took an early lead at the top of the first inning after senior Zamar Lewis batted Ty Mathis in from third base. The Trojans got a run back in their half of the first inning before scoring nine unanswered runs. West Brunswick senior Zachary Stegall closed the game out in the seventh inning with two strikeouts.

East Bladen will take on the Midway Raiders on Tuesday to open up SAC 7 Conference play.
