WHITE LAKE — Work has been in progress on Fayetteville Street in the first phase of White Lake’s Sanitary Sewer Improvements project.

A report from Brian Cox with Engineering Services, out of Garner, was provided to the commissioners at last week’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The report says after working on Fayetteville Street, crews are expected to be on Bladen Street this week, and Wilson Street from Dec. 21-23. The completion of the water main replacement should happen between Dec. 28-31.

Following water main installation and approval, the contractor then begins sanitary sewer replacement work on those same three streets in January. All total, the work on these three streets should take about three to four months and be done in early 2021.

The first phase is a funded contract amount of $2,214,173.

Cox, in an email to the Bladen Journal, wrote, “This is the loan amount available to the Town to complete the Phase 1 work. It is funded by a loan through the NC Division of Water Infrastructure State Reserve Program (NCDWI SRP). The project is ongoing, but the final cost should not exceed $2,214,173.”

The engineering report for the second phase was approved July 17. Bid plans and specifications are being reviewed by the N.C. Division of Water Infrastructure and awaiting approval.

Cox’s report says the bid package is estimated to be approved in February or March. Permits with the N.C. Department of Transportation, the N.C. Department of Water Quality, and Public Water Supply have all been approved.

“The Town has been awarded a loan, also through NCDWI SRP, in the amount of $2,998,667 for the Phase 2 sewer project,” Cox wrote. “This is the estimated cost of the Phase 2 project. The project plans and specifications are being reviewed by NCDWI.”

Once the package is approved and financing secured, the project will be advertised for bid. The early estimation of beginning construction is June or July.
