ELIZABETHTOWN — A steady stream of people filtered in and out through the downtown area on Saturday, with businesses catering to people from all over the country on Small Business Saturday.
Jane Priest, owner of Main Street Treasures, said that they had visitors from as far as New York.
“We like to talk,” she said. “We just enjoy the people coming in and out. It’s kind of like a little gathering place. People just come in and out.
“People come from different towns and people come back time after time again, and come in and visit.”
Her store, which is packed with antiques and treasures, features an eclectic mix, one that continually draws people back in, just because they never know what they are going to find.
“It’s so much a personal touch,” she said.
They don’t always make a whole lot of money, she said, but as long as they make enough to keep the lights on, she’s happy.
Sally Johnson, who works as a clerk in the store, said that it was a busy day.
“We have people down here from New York, from Calabash, and people who have just retired down here from Pennsylvania,” she said.
Saturday brought out some of the bigger spenders, Johnson said.
Marie McBryde and Robert Avine came down to stay at Lu Mil Vineyard.
“We come down here every year on my birthday, and see the Chirstmas lights,” she said.
Avine said it’s been part of their tradition, and that McBryde really liked the store.
“You never know what you are going to find,” McBryde said.
“We were here one year ago today,” Avine said.
Furniture and jewelry were some of the delights farther down the block.
“We have been very pleased,” said Ray Britt, owner and operator of Ray’s down the street. “It’s been better than normal, and much better than normal.
“We have had a lot of out of town, and it’s good for out of town to come here. But there has been a lot of local and it has been consistent all day. We haven’t had a ton of traffic, but that the traffic that has come, has bought. So we are very pleased.”
By mid-afternoon Britt estimated that they had done twice what they had done last year for the same day.
Ray Britt said he had a booming morning in his furniture and jewelry store.
Sally Johnson, Jane Priest, Marie Bryant and Robert Avine were all in Main Street Treasures on Saturday afternoon.
