ELIZABETHTOWN — The Bladen community is celebrating a well-known figure in the area and expressing their love for his gentle, friendly spirit.

Anyone who has driven through the traffic light at the corner of Mill St. and Hwy 701 in Elizabethtown has likely seen Mr. David Troy standing at the corner, greeting passersby with a huge smile and big wave.

He also can be seen helping to move the traffic along at that intersection, blowing his whistle as the light turns green to signal to drivers to move forward.

On Friday, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office presented Mr. David with his very own reflector vest to ensure he remains safe while directing traffic and greeting drivers.

Mr. Daid has also been named the Official Community Traffic Volunteer.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office posted the notice to their Facebook page on Friday, and the community left hundreds of comments on the post to express their delight and gratitude that deputies go the extra mile for residents like Mr. David.

The post currently has 9.3 thousand reactions, nearly 650 comments, and 800 shares.

One commenter, Harfel Davis, stated “That is awesome!!! He is a pillar in our community. He always has the biggest smile, speaks to everyone, and says be careful and God bless you. He even goes to the nursing home at ENC and prays with the residents. The small things mean so much. Funny how we take the small things in life for granted [sic]. I Love this. Blessings to Mr. David Troy.”

Other Bladen County residents also commented to show their support for Mr. David, sharing anecdotes and stories about seeing him while out and about in town.

It is clear from the Sheriff’s Office Facebook post that Bladen residents appreciate the kind heart of Mr. David and share his elation at his new title and position.
