LUMBERTON — No charges have been filed in a shooting at Sonic Drive-In in Lumberton on Thursday.

The shooting left one of two men exchanging gunfire behind the Roberts Avenue restaurant injured.

Ronald McDonald, 36, suffered what appear to be non-life threatening injuries, according to a statement from Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker. McDonald is married to one of the managers at the Sonic, the statement said.

According to the statement, McDonald and an employee at Sonic, 24-year-old Telvin Drummond, had a “verbal confrontation” before the shooting.

“Mr. McDonald returned to Sonic where another argument took place, leading to both men shooting at each other,” the statement said. The shooting was reported at about 7:20 p.m.

McDonald’s last known address is Elizabethtown Road and Drummond lives in Elizabethtown.

The investigation is ongoing, the statement said.

Detectives from the Lumberton Police Department were assisted by Erich Hackney, investigator for the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office.
