ELIZABETHTOWN — Charges have been filed in connection to a wreck in which a West Bladen High School student was killed.
The crash happened on State Road 1120, known as Butler Mill Road, about a mile from N.C. 211 just outside of Bladenboro at 1:50 p.m. on March 10, according to the Highway Patrol report filed by Trooper G.M. White.
Aldo Hernandez, a junior at West Bladen, was one of two passengers in the vehicle injured in the crash. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and died two days later. Alyssa Michelle Davis was taken to Bladen County Hospital.
Tykia Decarra DeLoach has been charged with reckless driving to endanger and driving without a supervising driver over 18. A warrant charging misdemeanor death by motor vehicle has been filed; as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, a Highway Patrol spokesman said it had yet to be served.
The trooper’s report says the 2004 Ford driven by DeLoach was traveling north and left the right side of the pavement. She overcorrected, then went off the left side of the pavement. The vehicle struck a ditch and overturned, throwing Hernandez from the vehicle.
White’s report says the vehicle had slick tires, and its estimated original traveling speed was 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.
