WHITE LAKE — Bladen County will share a part of the 42nd birthday of the Mountains to the Sea Trail.

The White Lake MST Birthday Hike is Sept. 7, starting at 8 a.m. at the Town Hall. The 6-mile hike will be around the area of White Lake, ending at Singletary Lake State Park. There is an option of hiking from Jones Lake State Park to Singletary State Park, a 21-mile trek.

Hikers will learn a bit about the Carolinas Bays on the journey. The hike is to include road and natural surface walking.

The 6-mile hike has a difficulty rating of “easy.”

Donations are welcome but the hike is free. T-shirts purchases or contributions will help continue the building of the Mountains to the Sea Trail.

Elsewhere along the trail bertween Cherokee and Nags Head, there are 27 trail towns hosting group hikes. One of those is the 42-mile hike near Blowing Rock over two days.

There aremore than 30 guided hikes scheduled, from a few as 1.5 miles to 12 miles, plus the 42-miler.

Among the special highlights are a paddle on the Neuse in Kinston, peddling on the greenway in Jacksonville, sunset hikes from Nags Head through Jockey’s Ridge State Park and also at Surf City up and over the new bridge. There’ll be a little wine in Elkin, birthday cake in Currie and Sunset Slushies in Roseboro.
