BLADENBORO — Folks in the town of Bladenboro have come together to help one of the community’s younger residents, Ayven Lennon, 5, who is battling Lymphoma and Leukemia.

The Bladenboro Benefit Committee has planned a Kid’s Fun Day at the Bladenboro Historical Building on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per child for an all-day pass, said Joyce Walters, one of the committee members. All of the proceeds will go to Ayven’s family to help defray his medical expenses.

Ayven is the son of Toby and Misty Lennon of Bladenboro, who was diagnosed with Lymphocytic B-Cell Lymphoma and Leukemia in May, according to his Go Fund Me page.

“His mother and father were told it would be a three-year treatment process. The committee got together and decided they wanted to help,” said Walters.

She said that children can play in the bounce houses donated by the Bounce Brothers, take a train ride donated by David Hales, have their face painted and play a cornhole game. There will also be live entertainment on the stage, slushies donated by Lu Mil Vineyard, and a dunking booth, said Walters.

There will be hot dogs available for purchase from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Walters said that, beginning at 4 p.m., there will be barbecue chicken and pork plates available for purchase at a cost of $7 each.

At 5 p.m. there will be a live auction with Levy Welch serving as auctioneer. Some items that may be of interest to folks are a rolltop desk, a box of new toys still in the packaging, and a sofa and love seat, said Walters. She also said that if an individual or business would like to make a donation to the auction, it’s not too late.

“We still need items for the auction,” said Walters.

Anyone who would like to donate items to the auction can call Dianne Merritt at 910-874-6034 or Walters at 910-872-1752. Walters also said if you need to drop off items for the auction, someone will be available at the Bladenboro Historical Building at 6 p.m. Wednesday and again at 6 p.m. Friday.

Folks can also donate through Go Fund Me page set up at http://www.gofundme.com/w6hexc where folks can make donations towards his medical expenses as well.

In addition to the activities at the Historical Building, Walters said The Dove Brothers will perform in concert at Galeed Baptist Church, where admission will be free and a love offering will be taken.

“All the money taken up will go to Ayven,” said Walters.

The Bladenboro Historical Building is located at 818 S. Main St., Bladenboro.
