Bladen commissioner: Education, health care and veterans are Munn-Goins’ passion

Dr. Ophelia Munn-Goins, the incumbent, is one of two candidates for a District 1 seat on the Bladen County Board of Commissioners.

The term is for four years. Munn-Goins is a Democrat.

Munn-Goins, 63, is a retired Army lieutenant colonal and has retired from a career in the public school system. She farms part-time.

She won election to the commission in 2016. Prior to that, she served three terms from 2004-16 on the Bladen County Board of Education, including as chairwoman and vice chairwoman.

“I work for all the citizens of Bladen County,” Munn-Goins said. “I do not have a personal agenda, but I’m working hard to cure economic opportunities in Bladen County, to work to ensure Medicare extension occurs, to make sure that democracy stands, our Constitution is not changed, and I’m working to help those who have medical needs, so they can get those needs cared for, and part of that is Medicare’s extension. I work for them. Education, social needs, medical and for veterans — I work for them.”

Among the issues she’s campaigning on, Munn-Goins says, “The main thing for me is education quality, for our children, for those who need secondary education at our community college. The medical needs. And for veterans. To make sure our veterans’ needs are met.”
