LAKE WACCAMAW — Once trying to even win one game, West Bladen has moved two games above .500 in the Three Rivers Conference and within one of leveling its overall ledger.

The resurgent Lady Knights knocked off host East Columbus 3-1 on Monday evening in girls high school soccer, winning their third straight match.

Senior Hannah Arnett, freshman Hannah Hester and sophomore Josefina Taboada scored the goals. Arnett, who will play at Guilford next season, and Hester had assists.

In goal, junior Alyssa Smith registered six saves.

West Bladen is 3-1 in the Three Rivers, three games in the loss column ahead of three fifth-place teams, and 3-4 overall. The program had not won twice in the same season since 2010-11, and was 5-112-3 between 2011-12 and 2017-18.

The Lady Knights’ schedule toughens, with consecutive road matches at Whiteville and unbeaten East Bladen next followed by a home test against South Columbus.
