Knights nicked in South Carolina

Kenny Armstrong|Bladen Journal West Bladen pitcher Trent West hurled a complete-game two-hitter against North Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Thursday, but the Knights couldn’t give him any run support and lost the Dixie Pre-Dixie summer baseball tilt, 1-0.

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — The Chiefs of North Myrtle Beach High used a late run to squeeze past visiting West Bladen High on Thursday in Dixie Pre-Majors summer baseball action, 1-0.

The loss drops the Knights to 5-4 on the season.

West Bladen’s trip to the beach was scheduled as a double-header, but Mother Nature won the second game when she swept into the area with rain and wind.

In the one game that was played, the two teams battled back and forth without pushing a run across the plate through five innings.

But in the sixth inning, the Chiefs managed to nick the Knights for a run and then made it hold up for the win.

Trent West took the tough loss for West Bladen on the mound, despite hurling a complete-game two-hitter.

The Knights were credited with four hits — Donald McCullum led the Knights with a pair of hits, while Seth Britt and Troy Edge each connected for one.

West Bladen is scheduled to host Whiteville for a single game on Friday. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Dublin.


Double-header canceled


East Bladen High’s scheduled Dixie Pre-Majors double-header at home on Thursday against South Brunswick was rained out. No make-up date has been announced.

The Eagles’ next scheduled game is Monday at South Columbus at 6 p.m.
