Cash on the Vine set for Saturday at Lu Mil Vineyard

DUBLIN — Bladen Community College celebrates 50 years with a concert called Cash on the Vine, featuring a Johnny Cash Tribute band, The Jonny Folsom 4, on Saturday.

The band performs Johnny Cash’s hit songs such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Long Legged Guitar Picking,” “Hey Porter,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “I Got Stripes” and “Ring of Fire.”

The Johnny Folsom 4 is based in Raleigh and has played venues and festivals from New York City to Nashville including headlining the NC State Fair in Raleigh, the Riverbend Music Festival in Chattanooga, and the SC Strawberry Festival in Fort Mill.

“People have come as far as Florida to hear the band. If you close your eyes you would think your listening to the late Johnny Cash himself,” Director of Resource Development and Foundation Linda Burney said. “It is going back memory Lane.

“We’ve got a couple of surprises in store,” Burney added.

People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to this family event. It is an outdoor event and only a few chairs will be provided. The concert will take place rain or shine. If it rains, the concert will be moved indoors.

According to Burney, in the hour before the concert, Lu Mil Vineyard will be giving a tour of the vineyard in a double-decker bus. Their winery will be open for wine tasting and their gift shop will be open as well.

Burney has been planning this event for three years in order to get the Johnny Folsom 4 to come out and play.

“It is the Foundation’s gift in recognition of the 50th anniversary,” Burney said.

Burney also stated that this concert is their first major event for the anniversary. However, they have had a multitude of events since January. The final event will take place in December.

“It is a fundraiser, but we’re more interested in getting the community together,” Burney said. The proceeds will go to help give students scholarships.

Cash on the Vine will take place Saturday, June 10, at Lu Mil Vineyard in Dublin. Tickets are available from BCC Foundation office, online, and at area merchants. Advance tickets are $15 each and tickets at the gate are $18 each. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
