CHARLOTTE — Evelyn Peterson Leathers, a Kelly native, has earned her doctor of philosophy in leadership studies from North Carolina A&T.

Leathers, the daughter of Rosa Ann Peterson of Kelly and the granddaughter of the late Jerome and Gressie Denkins Peterson, is a 1982 graduate of East Bladen High School.

An accomplished fundraiser with more than 20 years of administrative experience in higher education, Leathers says, “Fulfilling work is what I find most rewarding, and it is the success of individuals and organizations that fuels my passion.”

Leathers’ career includes significant appointments at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas; Shaw University in Raleigh; and Bennett College in Greensboro. She began her professional career as a development officer at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. She is a seasoned fundraiser in higher education.

Leathers holds a master’s in adult education and earned her bachelor’s in political science, both from A&T. She is married to Randall E. Leathers and is the proud mother of two adult children.
