BLADENBORO — West Bladen’s Haley Brooke Hester and East Bladen’s Alana Nichole King have been named recipients of the annual Boost the ’Boro scholarships.
In a news release, Sunday Allen of the selection committee said the choices were difficult.
“It is gratifying to know that Bladen County has so many high caliber students and we are honored to provide these awards to help them continue moving forward in their educational efforts and ultimate career choices,” she said.
Hester, the daughter of Tammie and Rodney Hester and the late Dewayne Hester, had a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.83 and has already received an associate’s degree from Bladen Community College. She’ll pursue a degree in biology at UNC Wilmington and has career plans to be a physician’s assistant. She was a member of several clubs, a cheerleader, studies dance, is active at Foundation Bible Church and is a student member of Boost the ’Boro.
King, the daughter of Shelley and Allan King, had a cumulative grade-point-average of 4.09 and has already received an associate’s degree from Bladen Community College. She’ll pursue a degree in education at UNC Pembroke and has career plans to be an elementary school teacher. She was a member of several clubs, played three sports, is active at New Light Church and frequently volunteers at a local food pantry.
