WHITE LAKE — Town commissioners in this residential resort community met Tuesday evening in regular session.
• What happened: The board set a public hearing for April 13 in order hold a public hearing related to the Grand Regal at Goldston’s Beach RV Park, which will become known as Harry’s RV Park.
• Why it matters: Goldston’s Beach is undergoing significant renovations across the street from 1589 White Lake Drive, the site named on an application for a special use permit submitted by Jake Womble.
The property is in a business zoning district and the proposed use is for an overnight RV park. The property was to be named the Grand Regal at Goldston’s Beach RV Park, but that’s marked out and Harry’s RV Park is the new name Womble penciled in. DeVane Builders is the developer.
Owners of the property are John Womble, Commissioner Dean Hilton, and Mollie Owen. Adjoining properties are Harold’s Family Campground and Thomas Cemetery.
The town’s Planning Board gave a recommendation to approve the permit, finding no issues with public health and safety; no injury to adjoining property values; and it would be in harmony with the area. It did, with its recommendation, say that two requests had been met: changing the 911 address to 1611 White Lake Drive, and changing the name to Harry’s RV Park.
• They said it: A resolution, honoring Carolyn Keith Lane, read in part, “Carolyn Keith Lane exemplified the highest standards and performance expected of a certified municipal clerk, and brought distinction and praise to the Town of White Lake’s Clerk’s Office.”
“She touched the lives of so many, including mine,” said Commissioner Tim Blount.
Lane served the town as clerk for 23 years ending in December 2003. She died Feb. 12.
• Adjourned: The meeting was adjourned to March 30 at 5:30 p.m., when it resumes as a budget retreat in person at Town Hall.
