East tennis falls; East soccer wins


— In Cerro Gordo on Wednesday, East Bladen got off to a good start with a win at No. 1 singles, but couldn’t pick up a “W” the rest of the way, falling to host West Columbus in a Three Rivers Conference match, 8-1.

Junior Ting Lin, moved from the No. 2 slot to No. 1, earned an 8-2 win for the Lady Eagles.



— In Elizabethtown on Wednesday, the Eagles remained perfect on the season with a 4-1 non-conference win over visiting Midway.

Greyson Heustess tallied a pair of goals to lead East Bladen, the first one coming deep in the first half off a corner kick. His second goal came midway through the second half off another corner kick and gave the Eagles their 4-1 margin.

Moments after Heustess’ first goal, he booted a pass to Brooks McGill, who took it the rest of the way for a goal and a 2-0 lead.

As the first half was winding down, Garrett Melvin took a pass from B.J. Garrett and booted home a goal for a 3-0 halftime edge.

The Raiders scored their goal early in the second half off a penalty kick.

Spencer Scott made six saves in the net for East Bladen.
