BEAUFORT — Chalk up another playoffs victory for the East Bladen High School girls basketball team.
The Lady Eagles went on the road Thursday to beat East Carteret in the second round of the 2021-22 NCHSAA Women’s Basketball Championships – 2A tournament by a score of 67-58.
East Bladen dominated the first two quarters and went into the half leading 41-18. But the East Carteret team fought back in the second half, scoring 23 points to East Bladen’s 16 in the third quarter and winning the fourth quarter 17-10.
The leading scorer for East Bladen was Anna Heustess, with 19 points. Alexus Mitchell added 13. Maegan Burney and Liala Smith each scored 10 points, and Iveonna Ward and Maya McDonald each had 6.
Thursday’s victory means the Lady Eagles, with an overall record of 25-3, advance to the third round of the playoffs and will play the Hawks of North Lenoir High School in LaGrange. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
