Eagles get tennis victory
ELIZABETHTOWN –East Bladen got five goals from Maya McDonald and another from Heidi Rebollar to hand visiting West Bladen a 6-1 conference-opening loss on Tuesday.
It didn’t take long for the Lady Eagles to get on the board, as McDonald scored her first goal of the evening within the first minute of play.
Less than 4 minutes later, however, the Lady Knights answered with a goal by Hannah Hester off an assist by Makayla Wright to knot the game at 1-1.
It was all East Bladen from there.
McDonald notched her second goal of the game later in the half to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 edge at the intermission. She then tallied a trio of goals in the second half and Rebollar added her scoring shot late in the match to seal the victory.
For East Bladen, Iveona Ward had two assists.
East Bladen, now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, will travel to West Bladen on Friday at 6 p.m. West Bladen is slated to visit East Columbus Thursday at 5 p.m.
TENNIS
In St. Pauls on Monday, the Eagles got four singles victories and two in doubles to knock off St. Pauls in the conference opener for both teams.
Conner Padrick got things started with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles; Cooper Padrick took a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash at No. 4; Blake Allen earned a tough 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 5; and Andrew Lin got a tough 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 to put East Bladen up by a 4-2 margin.
In doubles, Blaine Pope teamed with Jair McElveen for an 8-6 win at No. 1 to seal the victory; and the team of Conner Padrick and Cooper Padrick breezed to an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
The Eagles have evened their overall record at 1-1 and are 1-0 in the conference.
