ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen senior running back and linebacker Masion Brooks has been selected for the 87th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas earlier this week.
The Eagles’ star has displayed his talent during the last few seasons with 3,089 yards rushed and 42 touchdowns. This season alone he has more than 717 yards on the ground and has 10 touchdowns during the last five games.
Brooks’ athleticism allows him to play on both sides of the ball as an integral part of the team and is one of the Eagles captains.
Brooks will be utilized as a defensive-lineman on the North Carolina roster and he will be playing alongside some top prospects across the state. His best performance of the season came against South Columbus with over 239 yards and three touchdowns but he also had an excellent game on the other side of the ball with a forced fumble to go along with some big tackles.
Brooks will be joined by other talents in the area including West Columbus defensive-lineman D.J. Brant, St. Pauls’ linebacker Jamarcus Smith, and Clinton wideout Josiah McLaurin. The NC team will be led by Monroe Head Coach Johnny Sowell and the SC team will be led by Calhoun County Head Coach Wayne Farmer Jr.
Sowell said selection for the defensive-line came down to size and speed with the ability to contain. The game will kickoff on December 16th in Spartanburg, SC after the state postseason. Team SC took the victory against Team NC last year for a 17-13 victory.
